Monaco have confirmed that their striker Stefan Mitrović has sustained a knee injury and is expected to be out for several weeks.
The Serbian forward was forced off in the second half of Monaco's Ligue 1 match against Rennes on Saturday, after appearing to twist his knee during a challenge from Rennes defender Jean-Kévin Augustin.
Mitrovic had been impressive this season with six goals and three assists in eight league appearances, but will now miss at least two matches as he recovers from the injury.
Monaco manager Vahid Halilhodžić said: "We're really disappointed because we thought he was back to full fitness, but unfortunately it looks like he won't be able to play for a while."
Halilhodžić added that Mitrovic's injury is not serious, but it could take him some time to recover fully.
The news comes just days after Monaco lost key midfielder Hakim Ziyech to Chelsea in a £42m transfer deal.
Ziyech's departure has left Monaco short-handed in midfield, and they will need to find replacements quickly if they want to maintain their title hopes.
Mitrovic's absence could also impact Monaco's chances of making it to Europe next season,Ligue 1 Express as they currently sit fourth in the table behind PSG, Lyon and Marseille.
However, Monaco fans are hoping that Mitrovic can make a quick recovery and return to action soon, so that they can continue their impressive run of form.
In the meantime, Monaco will hope to bounce back from the loss of Ziyech and try to secure a win in their upcoming match against Bordeaux.
